Behind the Krown:
A Legacy of Care, Confidence & Community
Krown and Glory began as a one-woman dream fueled by passion, prayer, and a deep love for natural hair. Founded by Kris J, a bold stylist-turned-mentor, the salon first opened its doors in Baltimore, MD in 2009 — and quickly became a safe haven for women looking to reconnect with their crowns and their confidence.
By 2019, demand had exploded. There were more clients than Kris could handle alone — and that’s when the real expansion began. Determined not to turn people away, she opened her doors to emerging stylists, mentoring and training them with the same care she gave her clients. That leap of faith turned Krown and Glory into more than a salon — it became a movement.
Since then, Kris J has helped inspire and support the launch of other Black-owned salons across the region — from Glen Burnie to Bowie, MD, and as far as North Carolina. Through mentorship, leadership, and love, she built a powerful network of highly skilled natural hair professionals committed to serving the community with excellence.
Today, that mission continues to grow through the Sparkle Locs Academy — an online training platform designed to help aspiring stylists master Microlocs, launch their own businesses, and serve with confidence.
What started with one woman and a dream has become a thriving ecosystem of stylists, students, and salon owners — all united by the belief that your crown is sacred, your beauty is divine, and your purpose is bigger than you think.
Ready to join the movement? Whether you're looking for a stylist or ready to become one — your journey starts here.

About
Kris J.
Meet Kris J – Founder, CEO & The Sparkle Coach
Kris J is a visionary, confidence coach, and master stylist who turned a lifelong passion for hair into a full-blown movement. As the founder of Krown and Glory, she has spent over a decade building a brand rooted in beauty, boldness, and belief — helping women feel seen, celebrated, and confident in their natural crowns.
What began in her hometown of Baltimore, MD has grown beyond anything she imagined. After years of being fully booked and unable to meet the growing demand, Kris opened her doors to mentor and train emerging stylists — many of whom have gone on to build their own salons in Glen Burnie, Bowie, and even North Carolina. Her decision to expand wasn’t just about business; it was about building legacy and community.
Known as The Sparkle Coach, Kris now leads Sparkle Locs Academy — an online training platform that teaches aspiring stylists how to start and grow successful Microlocs businesses from home. She brings technical mastery, faith, and fierce encouragement to every class she teaches and every client she serves.
Kris J is also a proud mother of three, a world traveler, a confidence advocate, and a bold believer in living life in full sparkle. Whether she’s behind the chair, on a stage, or mentoring the next generation of stylists, her mission is the same: To help you stop shrinking and start shining — in business, in beauty, and in life.

-
Can I add extensions to my hair?Krown and Glory currently does NOT offer extensions as a service.
-
What are Microlocks?Microlocks are typically similar in size to Sisterlocks™️. The term microlock became popular by locticians who would do tiny locks that resemble Sisterlocks™️, however they are not certified in the study of the Sisterlocks™️ techniques and have not completed the Sisterlocks™️ Course. Legally, those locticians cannot call those locks Sisterlocks™️ due to copyright infringement laws and trademark protections in place.
-
How long does my hair need to be to start my locs?At Krown and Gory, we require atleast 3 inches of unprocessed hair to establish any locs in your hair. We recommend booking a consultation to determine if our services are a good fit for your hair goals.
-
Which products can I use on my Sisterlocks? As part of your installation appointment, we will provide you with an Sisterlock™️installation starter kit. Your starter kit will includes Sisterlock™️ Starter Shampoo. Once your locks are installed the ONLY product that you should use on your locks in the Sisterlock™️ Starter Shampoo. This shampoo is designed to help with the maturing/locking process. It is imperative that you refrain from using any other hair products unless prescribed by a physician. We want to avoid any unforeseen issues with your locking process.
-
Why do I have to select High Density/Long Hair Retight?Everyone's hair is unique and some of us are blessed in the hair department! If your stylist advised you to choose our High Density/Long Hair Retight option and your hair is not long yet, it is because your particular blessing of hair requires a bigger time slot. The standard time for High Density/Long Hair Retight is 3 Hours, which means that you need a little extra time to bring all of your glory together.
-
What are Sisterlocks?Sisterlocks™️ is a patented micro interlocking system for afro-textured hair.
-
Can I start my locs with permed or relaxed hair? You CAN start locs with permed or relaxed hair, however we do not recommend it due to aesthetic reasons. Typically relaxed hair needs to be rodded or styled more frequently after establishment to give the appearance of healthy hair. The abundance of styling required on transitioning hair from relaxed to natural can be tiresome and typically does not hold a style and cannot be included in the newly established Sisterlocks™️ (that hair is left loose and will not lock). Making the decision to lock your hair should be a statement of freedom and at Krown and Glory, that is always our goal!
-
Should I color my hair before or after I get Sisterlocks? If you are interested in adding color to your Sisterlocks™️, we highly suggest that you color your hair before your Sisterlocks™️ Installation appointment because it will not be possible to color your hair immediately afterwards. After your Sisterlocks™️ Installation appointment, your hair will need a moment to mature before the vigorous coloring process can happen again.
