The Real Truth Nobody Tells You About Beauty Business Ownership

If you’re thinking about becoming a beauty business owner just because you wanna “be the
boss”, think again. Sis, you got it all wrong! When you’re bold enough to step into entrepreneurship as a beauty business owner, you’re literally creating a baby. You’re laying it down, birthing it, and now you have to parent this thing for life... or at least until its purpose is fully grown.
Your business is something you carry, nurture, and raise, just like your child. And listen… when I first thought about becoming a business owner, I promise you I was not thinking about the sleepless nights, the long days, or the weight of the responsibility. I was only thinking about the fun part. Just like when you’re making a baby, and you’re thinking about the orgasms, not the labor pains.
In business, you’re thinking about the money you can make. You’re thinking about helping people in your community. You’re thinking about how your product is going to change lives and maybe even attempting to take over the world. But what you’re not thinking about is...
The IRS needing their cut. The late nights doing work because you don’t have a staff
yet. The emails, the phone calls, the constant customer care. The part where you’re
cleaning floors and fixing systems, that nobody sees. That’s the reality of owning a business.
Business Ownership = Parenting
After 11 years of being in business, I can honestly say entrepreneurship feels a lot like
motherhood. My role as a mom is to make sure my kids are in the best environment,
connected to the right people, and being pushed toward their gifts. My role as a business owner is the exact same thing, making decisions that put my business in the best position to grow strong, healthy, and sustainable.
Just like we eventually have to send our kids to college, our businesses reach a point where they need more than us; such as investors, mentors, skilled team members, etc. It can hurt, even feel a little scary, but it’s necessary. When Carol’s Daughter sold part of their company, customers were upset, but I saw it as a boss business move. Just like you can’t teach your child everything, you can’t always grow your business to its fullest potential alone. You need a solid team.
The Freedom It Brings
Even with the challenges, I wouldn’t trade this journey for anything. Entrepreneurship
has given me freedom to move where I want, travel when I want, and
create opportunities for my family. And the best part is watching "my baby” grow into something bigger than I could have ever imagined on my own.
